The commission for this intervention entailed the comprehensive management required to make the transformation of a former ceramic brick factory (bòvila) into a significant urban complex viable. The project involves the recovery of part of the old factory structure within the park, repurposing it for use as public facilities.
The entire development comprises 77 dwellings, a substantial commercial area distributed over three levels, a public park, and a car park with 124 spaces. It is worth noting that, due to the site’s topography, five storeys were constructed below the level of Passeig de la Vall d’Hebron: three dedicated to commercial use with direct access from the park, and a further two allocated to parking.
The intervention required meticulous execution of both the reparcelling and urbanisation phases, bearing in mind that effective management necessitated the simultaneous execution of the urbanisation works and the building construction.
The proposal for the massing of the built complex paid special attention to its relationship with the surroundings, situated alongside the Vall d’Hebron – Taxonera municipal market. Regarding materiality, ceramic facing brick was selected for the façade to serve as a reminder that a ceramic brick factory once stood on this site.
Communal swimming pools were installed on the building’s rooftop, offering truly unique views of the city and the sea. Furthermore, the dwellings were customised for each client, always adhering to the criteria of functional architecture.
