The project was governed by the strictest environmental criteria, aiming to design a building that is viable, sustainable, and socially equitable, with a high degree of flexibility to adapt to all contemporary forms of co-living and social interaction.
The construction utilised an industrialised system by the manufacturer GAPTEK, featuring aluminium columns and beams. These components were fabricated off-site and assembled on-site, allowing for a rapid and lightweight construction process. This structure is complemented by timber floor slabs and an envelope offering a high degree of insulation.
The quality of the dual-aspect dwellings, where all rooms face outwards, ensures abundant natural light and natural cross ventilation. The internal layout is designed to maximise the net internal area, successfully avoiding the need for corridors.
Regarding building services, the project prioritised renewable energy sources and the use of natural resources. Features include photovoltaic (PV) systems, rainwater harvesting, aerothermal energy with heat recovery for communal Domestic Hot Water (DHW), and humidity-controlled indoor ventilation (DCV), among others.
