For this intervention, we acted as architect-developers and contractors, undertaking the comprehensive management of the entire real estate development process. The scheme comprises a complex of six terraced single-family dwellings, adhering to the traditional Cerdanya typology, complete with a communal garden and car park. The latter is situated at street level, designed to resemble a livestock barn yet housing vehicles and storage rooms.

The construction was carried out following strict sustainability criteria: 45cm-thick walls with high-grade insulation, free of thermal bridges and finished in stone. The bay windows projecting from the façade plane were designed as sunspaces (or greenhouses) to maximise solar gain, whilst also helping to privatise and separate the porches of the different houses.

The ground floor of the dwellings is partially earth-sheltered at the rear. This design allows the building to harness the ground’s thermal inertia, maintaining a much more comfortable temperature in both summer and winter.

A study on materiality was conducted to prioritise locally sourced materials, such as stone from Pi and Pyrenean timber, selected also for their extremely low maintenance costs. Although this project dates back more than 30 years, it is worth noting the early implementation of sustainability and energy efficiency criteria—concepts that are widely discussed and valued today.
