On the banks of the Ural River in the city of Atyrau, a private company launched an ideas competition for the extension of their headquarters, the creation of a staff canteen, and a new car park for employees.
The existing L-shaped building was set back within the site, facing the block interior and lacking views of the river. Following our analysis, we decided to position the new office building fronting the Ural River, thereby establishing it as a landmark element offering spectacular views of the surroundings.
A four-storey car park, situated between the two volumes, serves to bridge the new building with the existing one via the canteen. This dining area is located on the upper level of the car park structure, opening onto a large viewing terrace.
The architectural proposal placed great emphasis on opening up to the exterior and maximising views through extensive glazing and light-filled double-height spaces. A defining feature of the building’s massing is the cantilever projecting from the upper section, which houses the auditorium. Above this volume, the new executive offices are located, complete with a large private terrace.
Finally, to ensure optimal integration into the site, the area surrounding the buildings was treated as landscaped green space. This fosters a pleasant working environment surrounded by vegetation, offering a place for staff to unwind and socialise.
