Situated on an infill site just moments from the Vilanova harbour and the seafront promenade, and only 10 minutes from the town centre, we were commissioned in 2020 to design a building comprising 26 dwellings, a car park, a communal swimming pool, and a rooftop solarium.

The complex trapezoidal geometry of the site, combined with the presence of two opposing façades—one facing the street and the other overlooking a large square with differing solar orientations—dictated a massing strategy featuring distinct balcony typologies. Those facing the square (South-West) are expansive, designed to maximise solar gain for the apartments. Conversely, on the opposite street-facing façade, which overlooks neighbouring buildings, the aim was to create balconies with a more intimate character, protected from overlooking views.

responding to its maritime setting, the building features a blue-grey plinth that evokes the colour of the sea, while the façade of the upper storeys rises in white exposed brickwork. This material choice is highly luminous, bringing greater brightness to the dwellings. The façades follow a continuous rhythm of windows and large cantilevered balconies, featuring floor-to-ceiling glazing that lends a sense of spaciousness and floods the interiors with light.

Through its colour palette, materials, and architectural form, the building achieves a seamless integration into the Mediterranean culture, intrinsically linked to criteria of efficiency and sustainability.
