Situated on a trapezoidal plot bounded by three streets in the Volpelleres neighbourhood, we were commissioned in 2015 to design a building comprising 37 rental dwellings, a car park, and a communal swimming pool. The project was meticulously studied to ensure the optimal orientation for all the apartments and the communal space.
The proposal features two separate blocks aligned with two of the streets, thereby freeing up the southern side of the plot to maximise sunlight exposure for the complex. Situated between the two buildings is a large entrance pergola, designed to house the concierge booth and the mailboxes, which are integrated into the boundary fence. The swimming pool is tucked away within the south-facing block interior, surrounded by a landscaped garden area.
The design is defined by a clear repetition of elements; specifically, an ‘L’-shaped balcony and glazing module applied to all the corners of the complex. All dwellings feature a corner living room that opens visually onto the balcony, designed to extend the interior outwards through the use of continuous flooring.
Regarding materiality and building services, the complex has been developed to ensure it ages well with minimal maintenance costs. The façade is constructed from handmade ECO klinker brick combined with concrete walls and slabs. The building’s services incorporate photovoltaic panels for self-consumption and water reuse systems.
